Individual Retreats

Jikoji's basic rate is $70/day for individual retreatants. Please check with the Shika for availability.

The basic rate also gives the individual non-exclusive use of the community kitchen, community living room, bathroom, zendo, and grounds, including nearby open space trails. Guests are expected to provide their own food and to clean up after themselves. Beds, blankets and sleeping pads are available, but linens, food and housekeeping are not provided.

A Dormitory Room sleeping up to 6 persons may be available at reduced rates for families or small groups: Dormitory Room #1 includes a full bath and Dormitory Room #6 includes a toilet/washroom.

Individuals may request private or semi-private rooms, as below.

Day Use

The day use fee is $350/day minimum for 10 persons or fewer, plus $25/person added for each additional person over 10; this includes exclusive use of the zendo and community building's kitchen, dining and living room for 8 hours. A deposit of $350 is required to confirm booking.

Group Retreats

See Group Retreat Facilities for general orientation.

Jikoji's Group Rate is $800/day for up to 10 people, plus $60/day for each additional person over 10 up to 20, $40/day for each additional person over 20, and $30 for additional campers. A $275 cleaning fee will be added to the final invoice. (Smaller groups are encouraged to consider Individual Retreat rates and terms as above. Note however that Individual Retreat rates do not provide for exclusive use of facilities.)

The Group Rate gives the Group exclusive use of the community kitchen, community living and dining room, both dormitories, and the Zendo, as well as non-exclusive use of the bathrooms and grounds. Room (#7), located in the Zendo building, and Room (#3) with bath are included in the Group Rate. For Groups of 16 or more, all facilities are included in the base rates, including rooms 1 through 6 and room (#7) in the zendo building, with a total of 24 beds. Smaller groups than 16 may also use Rooms (#4 and/or #5) for an added $20/day each, and/or Room (#2, with full bath) for an added $40/day. Sleeping in the Zendo, in tents, or outside in good weather is possible. Blankets and sleeping pads are available.

Compatible Zen Sesshin Retreats

Zen Groups that share Jikoji's Sunday programs in the large zendo are eligible for reduced rates. Either the Zen Group or Jikoji can be responsible for the program, either Jikoji's Teacher or the Group's Teacher gives the Dharma Talk, followed by either lunch together in the Community building or an individual lunch for Jikoji's sangha in the residents building. Jikoji will use the small zendo for beginners 10-11 am on Sundays.

Jikoji's Rate is $600/day for up to 10 people, plus $40/day for each additional person over 10 up to 20, $30/day for each additional person over 20, and $25 for additional campers. A $275 cleaning fee will be added to the final invoice. (Smaller groups are encouraged to consider Individual Retreat rates and terms as above. Note however that Individual Retreat rates do not provide for exclusive use of facilities.)

Deposit and Cancellation Policy

A non-refundable deposit of one night's rental, $800, is required to confirm booking.

Multi-day Rental Deposit Policy: $1,600. For reservations of two days or more, an $800 deposit is required on reservation. Another $800 may be required six months before the reservation date, for a total deposit of $1600.

Upon cancellation of the reservation, Jikoji shall retain all or a portion of the deposit if Jikoji loses rental revenues due to the cancelation. If Jikoji does not lose rental revenues, the deposit will be refunded. If Jikoji suffers rental income losses from the cancellation that exceed the deposit, the entire deposit will be forfeited. In addition, a group cancelling its reservation within 90 days of the reservation start date will be responsible for up to $800 minimum amount/day minus any substitute rental revenue Jikoji is paid from other renters during the cancelled reservation period.

Examples: For a 7-day rental that is cancelled, if Jikoji is able to rent to another group for the same 7-day period, there is no cancellation cost and the entire deposit of the group canceling will be refunded in full. If, however, Jikoji is paid no rental income during the same 7-day period, and the cancellation is more than 90 days before the reservation date, the entire deposit will forfeited and the group will owe no additional amount to Jikoji. However, if the cancellation is within 90 days of the reservation date, the group could be responsible for a maximum of $800/day x 7 = $5600. This amount will be reduced if Jikoji's is paid rental revenues during the period. For example if Jikoji was paid $1,600 during that 7-day reservation period by another group, the total amount due and owing to Jikoji would be $5600-$1600, or $4000.

Notes from Jikoji's Shika (Rentals Manager)

The charges from Jikoji are for facilities only. Before deciding how much to charge your retreatants, please also consider your group's costs, e.g., for food and food preparation. Will it be based on donations? How much will food cost? Your cook can help with that if she has a bit of experience.

Group managers keep a tally of how many guests stay per night - no difference between which rooms are used! For instance, perhaps 12 stay Friday night - Jikoji would be owed $800 for 1st 10 guests, plus $60 per night for each additional guest = $920 for Friday night. Saturday night, assuming 20 guests total, $800 for 1st 10 + $600 for 2nd 10 = $1400 for Saturday night... At the end of each groups' retreat, their manager sees me to pay their final charges, along with a breakdown of how many guests stayed each night. As far as drop-ins who only stay during the day, consided requesting donations - especially if they join you for meals!

Please don't hesitate to email Jikoji Rentals with any further questions or concerns.

Jikoji's staff may be able to suggest competent vegetarian cooks for groups who prefer to hire out their cooking. Call 408 741-9562 or email Jikoji Rentals for more information.
